Legendary Pictures to Produce My Hero Academia Live-Action Film

Legendary Pictures (Pacific RimGodzilla) and Toho are teaming up to bring the latest superhero sensation to mainstream audiences with a live-action film based on Kohei Horikoshi’s My Hero Academia manga! The film will be overseen by Alex Garcia (Kong: Skull Island) and Jay Ashenfelter (Pacific Rim: Uprising) from Legendary Pictures, and Ryosuke Yoritomi from Japanese publisher Shuiesha. Toho Co., Ltd will distribute the film in Japan, while a distributor for western markets has yet to be confirmed.

This marks the first live-action film based on My Hero Academia, which has previously been adapted into three television anime series (with a fourth in production), and the anime film My Hero Academia: Two Heroes, which tells a brand new story not featured in the original manga. The television anime is available on DVD & Blu-ray in the UK from Universal Pictures (Season 1) and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment (Season 2), while Manga UK will be releasingthe anime film in selected cinemas from 4 December 2018.

First published in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine, the iconic home of Dragon Ball and Naruto, the My Hero Academiamanga has sold over 17 million copies worldwide. The series is available in English from Viz Media, who describe the series as follows:
